How sale and leaseback works

  1. 1

    Get an offer.

Tell us about an asset your business owns, like a machine, tool or vehicle, and we’ll give you our valuation.

  2. 2

Sell us up to 100% of it.

Choose what share of the asset to sell us. We pay your business up to £10,000, to use however you like.

  3. 3

    Keep using it.

Lease our share of the asset over 12–36 months with monthly payments, while it stays at work in your business.

  4. 4

    Buy it back (or not).

When the lease ends you can extend it, buy back our share or sell us your remaining share. Any sale is based on a market valuation at the time.

Some more questions

Can I keep using my asset?

Yes. Under sale and leaseback, the asset stays in your business while you make the agreed lease payments and meet the agreement’s conditions. Capitrel owns the share you sold, up to 100%, during the lease.

What happens at the end of the lease?

You choose. Buy back the share you sold at the asset’s current market value, sell us the share you kept, or extend the lease. Either sale is based on a market valuation.

What if I want to terminate my lease early?

You can. Give us three months’ notice and keep paying your lease as normal until it ends. Then either buy back our share or sell us your remaining share, based on a market valuation at the time.

What happens if I default on payments?

Get in touch as soon as you can and we’ll try to agree a way forward. If payments stay unpaid, we’ll write to you and give you time to catch up before ending the lease. If it ends, we sell the asset, take any missed payments and costs out of your share of the sale, and pay you the rest. We don’t charge interest on missed payments.

What do I need to get started?

Your business information and details of the asset. With these ready, the application takes around five minutes.

How much cash can I release?

Between £1,000 and £10,000, depending on the asset’s market value and how much of it you choose to sell us. The lease then runs for 12 to 36 months. We also look at your business before making an offer, so not every application gets one.

How much are the lease payments?

That depends on the asset, the share you sell and the length of the lease. Your offer sets out your monthly lease payments, any fees and what you’ll pay in total, before you agree to anything.

What if there is finance outstanding?

We can only accept assets your business owns outright, with no finance outstanding on them. If you’re still paying off an asset, you can apply once it’s paid off.

Can I use an asset I own personally?

No. The asset needs to belong to your limited company. If you own it personally, you may be able to transfer it to your company first. Speak to your accountant before you do, as there can be tax implications.

What happens after I apply?

We review your application and contact you about your business and assets. We may request proof of ownership and further information.
